Primitive Rug Hooking is an age old craft using fabric strips and a simple hook to produce wonderful, whimsical rugs. While learning the basics of rug hooking, we will also explore the history and traditions behind this craft. Star Patch (view sample) is a 7” x 7” mat perfect for beginners! The class kit which contains all the materials, is included in the class fee. Students will need to bring a 12” or 14” quilting hoop and a scissors to class. (If need be…these are available for purchase at class!)

Finishing Techniques

This class will explore the many options of “finishing” a hooked piece. Bring to class: your “current” project, basic hooking supplies, tapestry needle, sewing needle and thread, notebook, pencil.

Design a rug...
Transform your ideas into a treasured heirloom. This class will cover all the steps...from creating the design and transferring it to your backing; color planning and wool selection; hooking and finishing options! To the first meeting bring your ideas...sketches or inspiration. Hooking tools and wool will be need for the second meeting. Special class discount will apply to wool and backing purchased in class. Cost of materials will vary depending on the size of your project.
Fee: $80.00

Dye Workshop
In this “hands on” full day workshop we will cover all the basics and explore several dye techniques. Class fee includes extensive course notes with recipes and dyed wool samples.
Wear old clothes and bring….an apron, rubber gloves, pen/pencil and plastic sandwich bags to bring wet samples home in.

Saturday: May 17 11:00am to 4:00pm
Note…For Saturday classes we take a short lunch break…you may bring a bag lunch or visit one of the neighborhood take-out restaurants!

You can bring to class a journal or notebook, favorite pieces of wool, embroidery floss, beads or any other fun tidbits in your stash…or buy materials at class...everything you’ll need will be available.

Wool Woven Heart Pin Keep

Inspired by my Danish heritage and memories of school day Valentines...
We’ll use a variety of hand-dyed wools and threads to stitch and embellish the pin keep! This little treasure would also make a great hanging ornament!
Class fee includes all supplies, but if you have a special piece of wool you want to use...bring it along!

Unlike our monthly hooking groups, which are not instruction oriented...the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays are the perfect times for some serious help! Please call ahead to register!

Beyond Beginner...aka...Design Your Own Two - 2 hour sessions (scheduled to meet your needs) 1st session: drawing your design, transferring to backing, begin color planning
2nd session: review color plan, choose wools, cut and begin hooking
$60.00 plus cost of project

The Wooly Red Rug Hooking Groups
We get together each month on the Third Thursday from 7 to 9 PM and the Second Saturday from 11 to 2. All are Welcome...No fee...No formal instruction...but you will find conversation and laughter...an opinion or two...advice and encouragement...GREAT (strong) coffee...and of course oodles of WOOL!
